Conservation Learning Centre (CLC) - Wintersteiger plot combine

Term: 1 year

Status: Complete

Funding Amount: $36,000

Lead Researcher(s): Robin Lokken (Conservation Learning Centre)

Funding Partners: Western Grains Research Foundation, Alberta Wheat Commission

Project Description

The Conservation Learning Centre (CLC), located in the northern grain belt region of the Prairies, requires funding to purchase a plot combine to increase research capacity.

The organization is currently expanding its research capacity after three years of increasing interest from various organizations to collaborate and complete scientific research on site at the CLC. Some of these organizations include the University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan and the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is currently collaborating with the CLC in the proposal stage of an interdisciplinary landscape scale intercropping project.

This equipment purchase will increase research capacity across all three prairie provinces for a wide selection of crops and other factors such as soil and water research that affect all crops grown in the region. The purchase of a new plot combine with a grain tank will also allow us to do larger scale field trials.
