Project Description

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is the premature germination of grains while the head is still maturing in the field. PHS causes significant economic losses to both growers and end-users. The research in this project aims to generate and deploy novel genomic tools for the breeding of the future generation of Canadian wheat and barley cultivars that are tolerant to PHS. This will enhance grain quality and quantity, the nutritional value of the grain, and positively impact the economic benefits and sustainability of cereal grains production for Canadian producers.
