Sask Wheat's message to researchers and institutions about COVID-19

The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission is aware that research organizations are currently reviewing and adjusting their research activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to support the agriculture industry and to ensure the safety of research organization personnel, Sask Wheat is working with funded researchers, institutions, and funding partners to adjust contracts so that this important work on behalf of Saskatchewan’s wheat producers continues.

Ongoing Research Projects

In order to ensure funded research projects continue, Sask Wheat is reaching out to institutions and researchers that have ongoing projects with previous funding commitments from Sask Wheat. We want to assure our funding recipients that their research efforts will continue to be supported by Sask Wheat and that we will work with them to amend funding agreements, on a project-by-project basis, as institutions take steps to limit exposure to COVID-19.

Funded researchers should contact Sask Wheat research staff about their projects as soon as possible to discuss contract amendments, including changes to:

  • reporting deadlines;

  • project terms/conditions;

  • project end dates;

  • changes to milestones/outcomes; and

  • payment schedules.

It should be noted that the release of payments will still be subject to the submission of reports according to the original or newly amended reporting deadlines.

New Research Projects

Research organizations that have received funding approval from Sask Wheat, but have yet to sign a contract, will be contacted by Sask Wheat research staff to determine if the project will proceed as originally approved, or if changes will be needed. Sask Wheat is committed to work with researchers, institutions and funding partners to make changes to pending contracts.

Sask Wheat will continue to participate in all current/active research funding calls, such as the Agriculture Development Fund through the Government of Saskatchewan.
