News Release: Sask Wheat announces the results of the 2019 director election

December 9, 2019 (Saskatoon) – The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask Wheat) is pleased to announce the results of its 2019 director elections.

The three candidates who will be serving on the Board of Directors are:

  • Lesley Kelly, who farms near Watrous. Lesley is the farmer behind the High Heels & Canola Fields blog. Lesley co-founded the Do More Agriculture Foundation, whose mission is to break barriers and support all producers in taking care of their mental well-being.

  • Glenn Tait, who farms near Meota. Glenn has served on his local RM council and his local school board, and currently serves as an Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) representative. He previously served as a Sask Wheat director from 2014 to 2018.  

  • Jocelyn Velestuk, who farms near Broadview. Jocelyn is an agronomy consultant who is currently the President of the Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association board. She has also served on her local daycare board and on the Broadview Agriculture Society board.

The final results of the election are as follows:

  • KELLY, Lesley – 1,546 votes

  • TAIT, Glenn – 1,399 votes

  • VELESTUK, Jocelyn – 1,355 votes

  • HEPWORTH, Scott – 1,352 votes

  • WELLS, Stewart – 1,182 votes

  • SPROAT, Brady – 961 votes

  • MASSIE, Garth – 913 votes

There were 3,318 verified and counted ballots returned for this election. Of those, 2,322 producers voted with a paper ballot while 996 producers voted online.

The directors’ terms will start following the Sask Wheat Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020, at TCU Place in Saskatoon. Each candidate will serve a four-year term. They will be joining four existing directors on the Board: Bill Gehl of Regina, Brett Halstead of Nokomis, Jake Leguee of Weyburn, and Ken Rosaasen of Preeceville. The next Sask Wheat election will be in the fall of 2021.
